«Life begins after coffee»
For us, for whom the day only begins after a steaming cup of coffee, literary works on the subject are rather rare, although when they are published, they are very conscientious, based on the stories and culture of the people who cultivate and elaborate this unique flavor explosion.
The book
When Farnaz Calaf's book arrived, I was especially excited because in a very concentrated volume, just sixty pages, it offers us very valuable information on the world of coffee and very elegant coffee recipes as the main item for eight cocktails, it does not include dishes or desserts.
I have it in virtual format, but it can be purchased on paper, hardcover in a very comfortable size in case you want to carry it in your bag or read it in any corner of the house.
In addition to some old illustrations, it contains attractive photographs both to illustrate the information it provides and to show us how the coffee preparations it proposes are attractive. The book is in landscape format, the seven sessions are introduced with a light brown sheet and, except for a few pages, all the others are divided on the right and left sides, alternating text and photography.
It is made up of two indexes, one for the general content and the recipe index, as well as a section for mentions, people who have participated in the book's edition, and another, a biographical index.
The author
Farnaz Calafi is an American journalist, enthusiastic about coffee and topics of conversation that sculpt coffee in an act of surprise... Or another emotion that can cause the same effect!
Due to some of the topics that make up his book when he talks about coffee, such as social justice, health, anecdotes, humor and poems, he is surely a person who offers a very entertaining conversation between cups of coffee... And we hope, you want to continue sharing his experiences and knowledge writing books as entertaining, but complete as this one!
Content, more than recipes
There are lots of recipes, but also some history, culture, social aspects and fun facts about coffee.
The elaborations that it proposes, in addition to those that come with an illustration and a recipe, there is a small list with other coffee cocktails combined with spirits, specially designed to welcome the New Year.
Of the recipes in the book, I want to try the White Chocolate Russian and the Margarita cocktail with fruit, the Coffee-rimmed Tamarindo Margarita, I hope presented in a specific glass for Margarita, which has this cool shape that appears in the photograph!
Back cover
It is a very short book on coffee, but it has a lot to offer. I especially like it when it reminds us of the sector's social responsibility and talks about fair trade coffee, with certification Fairtrade which also applies to different products. Learn about the principles of Fairtrade certification for coffee (in Spanish), at Criterio de Comercio Justo Fairtrade para Café and the general standards in Fairtrade Standards.
